GENERAL RULES
Play is governed by the Rules of Golf of the United States Golf Association, and where applicable, by local rules, conditions and defenitions as stated on each event's rules sheet.
HANDICAPS
The MGA Board, tournament chairmen, and rules committee reserve the right to adjust the handicap of any individual prior to or during an MGA event. The most current handicap index as posted outside the golf pro shop and on the Raveneaux handicap computer will be used for an event. If a tournament format requires less than full handicap allowance, percentage of handicap used will be listed on the event's rules sheet.
SENIOR TEES
MGA events will offer a special set of tees for its competitions. These tees, designated by the color yellow, offer a slight yardage advantage from the regular (white) tees.
Players that are 60 years old or greater AND have a course handicap of 18 or higher are eligible to play the yellow tees.
PACE OF PLAY
Pace of play is important to the success of MGA events. The following pace of play policy is in effect for all MGA events.
The maximum time for the completion of each hole and the round will be 15 minutes per hole (4 1/2 hours) Groups will be expected to play within this maximum pace of play. A group will be considered out of position when there is one complete hole open in front of them and they are behind the posted maximum pace per hole. When a group is out of position, they will be warned and subject to being timed. Once "on the clock", each player will have 45 seconds to play when it is clearly his turn. A penalty of two strokes may be assessed to a player violating the 45 second time limit. A penalty of two strokes may be assessed to all players in the group if the group fails to improve their time and position reletive to the group in front of them.
USE OF YARDAGE DEVICES
As a local rule in MGA Competitions, the use of distance-measuring devices will be permitted. These devises include SkyCaddy or other Satellite based GPS yardage instruments, Range-finders, or other similar devices. Devices must not guage or measure other conditions that might affect a player's play (e.g., wind, slope or gradient), and must measure only distance.
EMBEDDED BALL RULE
Through the green, a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.
Exceptions:
1. A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if the ball is embedded in sand in an area that is not closely mown.
2. A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if it is clearly unreasonable for him to make a stroke because of interference by anything other than the condition covered by this Local Rule.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE: Match Play-Loss of hole; Stroke Play-Two strokes.
SUSPENSION OF PLAY FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION
When play is suspended for a dangerous situation (lightning, tornado, etc.), if the players in a match or group are between the play of two holes, they shall not resume play until the committee has ordered a resumption of play. If they are in the process of playing a hole, they shall discontinue play immediately and shall not thereafter resume play until the Committee has ordered a resumption of play.
If a player plays a stroke after a suspension of play for a dangerous situation the player should be notified immediately that play has been suspended and he must suspend play. If any other stroke is played following the notification, he will be disqualified.
All practice areas shall be closed during suspension for a dangerous situation until the Committee has declared them open for use.
NOTE: A suspension for a dangerous situation shall be signalled by one prolonged siren or horn blast and/or the club's siren.
SCORING
Scoring shall be conducted by the professional staff and the designated MGA tournament coordinators.
Method of scoring shall be noted on each event's rule sheet.
In events where all players are elligible for both gross and net prizes, a player or team who finishes "in the money" in both gross and net will be awarded the place that is valued highest in position (1st, 2nd, 3rd) not prize money or points.
Should a player or team finish first in both gross and net divisions, the player/team will be awarded 1st Net
RESULTS OF THE COMPETITION
When all scores have been posted on the Official Scoreboard and approved by the Rules Committee, the result of the competition shall be deemed to have been officially announced. Once results are officially announced, no changes will be made to any player or team's score, or tournament finish.
